Best-before date / BBD information
Under European Regulation No 1169/2011 of 25 October 2011 on the provision of food information to consumers, certain categories of products are not required to display a best-before date, also known as a BBD.
This exemption applies in particular to confectionery products consisting almost exclusively of flavoured and/or coloured sugars, as well as chewing gum and similar products intended for chewing.
In France, Law No 2015-992 of 17 August 2015 on the energy transition for green growth even stipulates that a BBD must not be displayed on products covered by this exemption, to limit food waste when such a date is not relevant.
For some confectionery products, the absence of a best-before date or BBD on the packaging therefore complies with current regulations.
